ELECTIVE

Elective is a feature-length documentary exploring the evolving and cultural relationship between the human body and identity. From birth to the aging process to the cultural practices surrounding death, the film examines how the physical form holds agency that shapes how we see ourselves and how we are seen by others.

Through a sincere and nuanced lens, Elective investigates the cultural, medical, and personal forces that influence our desire to preserve the body. From medical and holistic treatments to cosmetic procedures, the film questions what it means to care for the body, to change it, and to claim ownership over it.  At its core, Elective is a meditation on how the body becomes a vessel for memory, self-expression, survival, legacy and how our connection to our physical selves defines the human experience.
